The American illustrator Maurice Sendak. Because of the enviable way he could draw lifelike animals, people and especially children, both naturalistically and comically.
Sendak, who died in 2012, is perhaps best known for the picturebook 'Where the wild things are', but also illustrated Jewish tales, and designed opera stage sets.
