As this week's Monday hero I chose illustrator Garth Williams (1912-1996), and his illustrations for Laura Ingalls' Little house on the prairie series in particular.
They are a bit of a 'guilty pleasure' for me: a bit too round and sweet, but that makes them fit perfectly with Ingalls' stories, as she made the pioneer-life in America sound like an essentially cosy adventure.
I loved the books as a child, and still do, not least for the beautiful black and white illustrations!
