The Swiss painter Ferdinand Hodler (1853-1918) has painted symbolist scenes, portraits, and beautiful impressive mountain landscapes, a few of which are seen here.
I once saw a great retrospective exhibition of his work in Basel.
It also included the very moving series of portraits Hodler painted of his lover Valerie Godé-Darel on her deathbed.
