Monday hero: Jean-Jacques Sempé

Jean-Jacques Sempé (1932) is a French illustrator, best known perhaps for his series about a small boy: le petit Nicolas.

He also worked for magazines like l'Express, Paris Match and The New Yorker.

His drawings are characterised by a benign humor, and a compassion with human incompetence.

His figures all are movingly naive.
