Monday hero: Ilon Wikland

Most people my age, here in Holland at least, will agree that paradise must surely be situated in Sweden. We know this because we saw series on tv like 'Seacrow Island' and read Astrid Lindgren's books, illustrated by Ilon Wikland (1930).

While Ilon Wikland herself fled Finland as a child, to get away from World War II (and her divorced parents), the healthy, red-cheeked children that Wikland draws, happily and freely roam the rural surroundings of Bullerby. That's the life!
