Monday hero: Quentin Blake

The illustrations by Quentin Blake (1932) look comfortingly accidental at first glance, but when you look at his self portrait (bottom row left) or his portrait of Roald Dahl (top row, middle) you can see that he can draw extremely well.

Two years ago I saw a lovely exhibition at the Jerwood Gallery in Hastings, where he lives.

Big drawings of all the different groups of people one might encounter in Hastings, but as underwater creatures.

The works were for sale, but sadly for me, they had all already sold, and I had to make do with a set of postcards...
