In 2002 I saw an exhibition at the Groninger museum called Russia's secret, with work by the painter Ilja Repin (1844-1930), till then indeed absolutely unknown to me.
Now that I am totally 'into' portraits myself, it pays to take a good look at what the Great and the Good have done.
And Repin was certainly great and good at his work!
