Monday hero: Utrecht, Caravaggio and Europe

Last week I visited the newly opened exhibition Utrecht, Caravaggio and Europe here in Utrecht at the Centraal Museum.

The Caravaggist painters are not normally top of my list, but my son Thijs, who showed me around, wrote the text for the audio tour and guidebook, so I looked a bit closer!

The absolute top is a work by Caravaggio himself, The burial of Christ (above middle) on a short loan from the Vatican.

Standing in front of this big canvas, the man carrying Christ's legs seems to look at you directly, and ask you if you can take over from him!

I was also taken by the work of Hendrick ter Brugghen. The people he paints are quite touching.

If you go see the exhibition for yourself, do take an audio tour!
