Monday hero: Lotte Laserstein

Lotte Laserstein (1898-1993) was a painter of German-Swedish, Jewish descent.

I had seen her work Girl with cat, but hadn't remembered the maker's name.

Her work is fascinating, both modern and old-fashioned at the same time.

There are beautiful portraits of children, and an almost last supper-like group portrait of her friends called Evening over Potsdam.

I like her self portrait bottom left best of all, with the face in almost total shadow, and her investigating look.
